BOOK OF AKIRA

It looks like the rumours of The Hughes Brothers directing the live action Akira movie are half true.Word broke earlier this year that Book Of Eli directors Albert and Allen Hughes would helm another post-apocalyptic project, the live action version of the Japanese anime film Akira. Now Deadline.com reports that only one of the directing duo, Albert Hughes, will helm the project. If true, this would be the first solo outing for either of the brothers Hughes, having partnered-up for all their past films. We'll hone our senses for the latest Akira details. In the meantime, their latest adventure, Book Of Eli, hits DVD and Blu-ray on June 15th.

MARS NEEDS MOVIES

Another Red Faction game is heading to consoles, and the red planet may also start a rebellion on the silver screen. The fully-destructible series is the latest gaming franchise to get a movie adaptation. Publisher THQ expects the film to strike Earth with the next Red Faction game, and hopes the project will be the first game adaptation to bring down the house. THQ says this could be the start of a new media strategy, and that future games and movies might also be developed and released simultaneously. The next Red Faction game is expected to continue the struggle of the Martian colonies against their Earth oppressors. Still no official word on a release date.
