Bottom Line
A passable follow-up to Tales of Symphonia. |
"They're aren't many meaty, long-haul RPGs available for Wii. And since Dawn of the New World revisits Tales of Symphonia, one of my favourite GameCube RPGs, I'm inclined to go easy on it. Although the story does occasionally drown in exposition, it starts off with a positively shocking moment for fans of ToS. Most of the basic combat and exploration is left intact, though because you are given a menu-based world map, the exploration feels trimmed. There are some new combat/character development features to get lost in, such as the new monster "pact" system which allows you to increase the power of your monster companions. But, much of this can be ignored if you just want to hack 'n' slash your way through the story. Perhaps Dawn of the New World benefits from the fact that there isn't much competition for it on Wii, but it's suitably epic for fans."
