What a weekend! This was really the kick start of the holidays for me. Vancouver was blanketed by snow--I know, BIG DEAL(!!) if you're from anywhere else in Canada or big chunks of the US, but for us folks in the warmest and wettest urban center in the country, getting several inches of snowfall this close to Christmas IS a big deal, trust me! My wife and I also attended our first Christmas get together with friends and that was a great party with a collection of people ranging in ages from 8 months to parents in their 70's. (The Chief and Athena were at the party too, so that was pretty sweet for this BSG fanboy!) And then last night, after a solid snowed-in day of gaming...I've gone back to the final stages of God of War II to finally complete the game--don't ask! I get busy with new stuff to review every week and it's taken me forever but man, I love God of War!!! Anyone that is fully enamored with the new Prince of Persia and its simplified design, should really take another look...

Fract And Fiction
|
Another demo for a very unusual but cool action shooter is heading our way next week. LucasArts will be releasing a demo of Fracture later this month. The game allows players to turn the environment into a weapon thanks to a real time terrain deformation feature. Gamers can raise and lower terrain to give themselves cover and height advantages, not to mention messing up opponents in other creative and earthy ways. The free demo will be released on September 18th on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network; the full game will be released in October. If you can tear yourself away from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which is being released next week, give a try.

On The Pitch

FIFA fans, do you like head-to-head play? Well, you know what they say, 20 heads are better than two. EA Sports has announced a new online mode called FIFA 09 Clubs. Clubs mode allows gamers to form or join user-controlled soccer clubs anywhere in the world, forming a roster of up to 50 friends. Pretty impressive, but that’s not all. In Be A Pro: 10 versus 10 Online Team Play, 20 people on 20 different consoles anywhere in the world can connect online to play a single match. That’s right. Twenty people in a single online match of soccer. We can’t wait to give it a try. Speaking of which, a free demo of FIFA 09 is now available on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

The Dark Knight Returns
|
We just can’t stop talking about The Dark Knight. Even though the movie is still playing in theatres around the world, Warner Bros. has announced plans to re-release The Dark Knight in January. What, they wanna make more money? I’m sure they do, but that’s not the real reason. January is Academy Award voting season, so it looks like Warner Bros. is trying to pimp the movie for some Oscars. It could turn out well for The Dark Knight, there was Oscar buzz surrounding Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker even before the movie was released. He’s certainly got my vote.

Arnie Finds Salvation
|
With his Gubernatorial duties, Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn’t been able to make movies. But the folks behind Terminator Salvation are about to bring him back…or at least his face. It seems that a digital version of Arnie’s, or the T-800’s, face will be superimposed on actor Roland Kickinger, tying all the films together.

Lost & Found
|
It looks like JJ Abrams could return to the land of the lost. The Lost creator mentioned recently that he would love to return to the series and direct an episode of the final season. He’s even open to helming the series finale, but adds that frequent series’ director Jack Bender has done a great job and doesn’t want to take anything away from him or his efforts.

Fletch Lost
|
Some sad news from the world of literature. Gregory Mcdonald, author of the Fletch novels, has died at the age of 71. The first Fletch novel, about the adventures of investigative reporter Irwin M. Fletcher, was published in 1974. Chevy Chase starred as Fletch in two movie versions and ardent fan Kevin Smith was long rumoured to write and direct a new flick. However, Fletch will live on in a new movie that is being planned without Smith, based on Mcdonald’s 1985 novel Fletch Won.

Master Chief Needs Help

This is sure to stir up some Halo 4 rumours. Microsoft has posted an ad on job hunting site Monster.com. The ad is seeking a Program Manager to join the Halo Team and “help define the next generation of gaming software technology.” Hmm, what could it mean? Although Microsoft said that Halo 3 would conclude the story arc that began in the original Halo, anyone who’s played through Halo 3 knows there’s lots of room for Halo 4.

MSBC

We’ve got some new neighbours around the EP HQ. Microsoft has officially opened its first Canadian development centre in Richmond, British Columbia. The Microsoft Canada Development Centre quietly began operations last year with 20 employees, but now they’ve grown to 300. The centre works on over half of Microsoft’s products including Windows, Office, the Zune, and the Xbox 360. The managing director of the new Microsoft Canada Development Centre said that they’ll be working on “the next wave of Microsoft products and services.” I’m sure it won’t be long before we’ll be stopping by to visit…maybe I should bring a housewarming present.

Just Say No
|
Fallout has taken a page from Nancy Reagan and just said no to drugs. Apparently Australia\'s Office Of Film & Literature Classification didn’t like the game’s use of real world drugs, such as morphine used as a painkiller, and other chemicals that gave the player’s character a boost. Thus, the office refused to give the game a rating, effectively banning it from the continent. This has lead Bethesda to change the game so that there are no real world drugs in Fallout 3, and the fictional drugs don’t benefit the player to same extent. For consistency, the changes have been made in all versions worldwide. But don’t worry folks, it’s a minor thing and Fallout 3 is still looking amazing. Watch out for our making of documentary soon.

Excited about the new James Bond movie yet? I know I sure am. Well, MGM just released a new trailer for Quantum Of Solace. The 22nd Bond film sees the return of Daniel Craig’s Bond as he battles a plot to seize Bolivia’s water supply, and avenges the death of his lover, Vesper Lynd, from Casino Royale. This is the first ever direct sequel to a Bond movie and we’ll all be able to see it when it opens on November 14th.

March Of The Penguin
|
And now it’s time to fuel the Batman rumour mill some more. Mission Impossible III’s Philip Seymour Hoffman has responded to rumours that he’s being considered for the role of The Penguin in the next Batman movie. Hoffman says that grew up a fan of comic books and thinks the Christopher Nolan movies are true to the Batman character. Hoffman was a pretty good villain in Mission Impossible III, don’t you think?

Marvel Movie Mania
|
There could be more Marvel superhero movies swinging into theatres. 20th Century Fox is holding a meeting to discuss more superhero movies. There’s speculation the studio is considering a return to Daredevil, and more X-Men spinoffs including a young X-Men and a Deadpool movie. Incidentally, Ryan Reynolds, who already played a superhero of sorts in Blade: Trinity, will be playing Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. One thing’s for sure, with the success of The Dark Knight, we’re gonna see a lot more superhero movies which is just fine by me.

Gore-y Movie For Depp
|
Actor Johnny Depp is reteaming with director Gore Verbinski, only this time it’s not on a pirate ship. The Pirates Of The Caribbean duo are getting together for Rango, an animated flick about a household pet that ventures on a journey of self-discovery. Verbinski will direct and Depp will be the voice of the main character. The movie is expected to be in theatres March 2011. And don’t forget, Verbinski is also working on the big screen adaptation of BioShock. Am I being naive, or is it okay to be optimistic about this one?

whoops double-clutched sorry folks
first off I'd like to give a big boo to the player haters towards the top of this board. Their was no need for any of that; 2nd as a first-time viewer fo thsi site I notice an extreme lack fo PC reviews which is probaly ultimately why you guys decided their was nothing good on PC. With that thought in mind i was wondering if you and your fine staff were looking for someone to fill in the gap and review PC releases? I'd also be interested in doing throwbacks if you guys wanted to do old PC games or old console games, etc. Now that we're seeing classics being re-released on XBoX Live and that WII Downloads and the Playstation Store (but not really) perhaps old-time reviews would have some value.

BTW I think this will be by far the greatest story in the digital entertainment industry in the coming year(s): the battle to censor the Internet! This will indeed, be fairly epic. Link here: http://www.canada.com/topics/technology/story.html?id=1123827 Again, Happy New Years!
Have a very happy and prosperous New Year, Vic. Same to all the hosts and you hard working people behind the scenes producing this great show. ElecPlay is a great resource for us working to be successful in entertainment. ElecPlay also has *heart* which is sadly lacking in most venues. Best regards, and remember: A man should be judged for the quality of his character, not for the brand of his gaming console. ;) HNY, Del Esau
I can't wait until somebody comes out with a machine that is compatible with all the consoles. Imagine being able to play xbox 360, PS3, and Wii games all on one console. That somebody will be a very, very rich guy. I imagine though, that the lawyers for the "Big 3" will get rich too, trying to de-rail it.
I have never understood the whole concept of being a fan of one console or another. It's all just gaming. There are pros and cons to any system. not everyone can afford a ps3 AND an xbox360, but if you can, than you have the potential to play so many more games, and that to me what its all about.
Well I remember seeing lots of coverage on littlebigplanet and MGS4 so maybe you just don't know what you are talking about.
I'm sorry that Microsoft has failed you and you need to take it out on Sony and Nintendo, Commodore. I think you need to quit going to online sausage parties, find a woman and do more with your life than arguing about consoles. I want an explanation from Victor Lucas on why Reviews On The Run has a heavy Xbox 360 bias. I don't care what you have to say.
Hey man, Just because I hate the sony playstation, all of it's fans, and have blamed Ken Kutaragi for all the wars in the world does not make me a fanboy.........
You're the troll, commodore. Pathetic Xbox 360 fanboy. Go back to your endless online sausage parties and hoping Victor and his buddies will invite you to a game.
obvious troll is obvious.
Commodore 64, the prices for the two consoles I do own and all their peripherals have the same prices here in Canada as they do in the U.S. and the Xbox 360 is also at par. The Xbox 360 peripherals, Xbox Live and Xbox 360 Marketplace points are not. Yet, Mr. Lucas and his cohorts continue to suck up to MS and Bill Gates because he provides them financial support for their T.V. shows. I think it's a disgraceful show of bias. I'm sorry that your Xbox 360 broke for the 5th time and you're taking your anger out on me. You got what you paid for. That's buyer's remorse for you. Maybe your good buddy Victor can lend you one of his beloved Xbox 360s while you wait for MS to repair your latest Red Ring Of Death.
Mr Briang(if that is your real name) Do you not know that prices are often inflated for any video game console or game in Canada? Are you upset because your less popular video game system gets less air time from just about everyone and it's just easier to assume that Victor Lucas is part of some sort of corporate conspiracy then admit the fact that your piece of gaming hardware is less popular because less people like it? Don't you have better things to do with your life?
Mr. Victor Lucas, I have seen in the last year or so some heavy, heavy bias for the Xbox 360 from you and you co-hosts. Despite all the problems in regards to durability and higher prices that Canadians have to pay for Xbox 360 accessories and XBL you continue to act as if the Xbox 360 is the greatest console ever. Are you taking payola from Bill Gates and Microsoft?
To Vic, all the staff at Greedy, and all who love video games and technology (and the rest of the world as well), hope you have the Merriest of Christmases and the Happiest of New Years. Here's hoping that 2009 is an even better year for Gaming and Gamers!!!!!! Peace to all! Alien Sex Goddess
Vic reading your blogs and gaining insight everytime I read one of them is a profound and knowledgable experience, anything from Vancouver getting snow to how metrics concert was to the conversations of how tech sauvy everyone is getting these days, I totally think that technology is needed in this day in age, obviously the "elders" would have a hard time understanding what it's all about but thats just because they were brought up in different times, which is obvious cause if your like 70 im sure all you had was a stick and a tin can, but this is the way of the future and has no intention of slowing down which is good cause I love a good killing spree on COD or GTA. anyways Merry Christmas, Kwanza or hanukkah to all. and I hope I get Fallout 3 from god ol' St. Nick
Happy Holidays Vic!!!
Hey Vic, Will we be able to watch the newer episodes of Reviews on The Run online? I've been dying to watch the Fallout 3 ep, but they keep showing older re-runs on g4 tech tv :( Anyway, merry Xmas man, enjoy the holidays, you deserve it. -Broodix
All the best to the entire staff! Keep up the great work. Lets hope that 2009 will bring at least one PC gamer to the team. Some comments made during the year in review episode where inaccurate due to a lack of knowledge of the platform but it's all good. Even reporters can't research everything they say on air during an exchage between experts in certain field. Just keep in mind that the PC tuitles you referred to as console games releaswed on the PC started as PC games. Far Cry, Fallout 1, 2..Left 4 Dead ( Valve). It's like me saying that the 360 had 2 games cause the 2 exclusive big hits where Gears 2 & Fable2. Anyways the last 2 years have been amazing for PC gamers all the best selling consoles games plus PC exclusives like the witcher enhanced edition, Crysis Wars, STALKER clear sky etc...& a few MMOs. PS. Please stop with the PC gaming is expensive 1500$ PC etc...If you paid 1500$ for gaming PC you got ripped off. I upgrade every 3 or 4 years & spebnd 600$. You can get a sick system with 2 video cards for 1000$! Again not trying to bash you guys...keep up the good work but research helps when not knowledgeable about a topic especially if it's going toair on TV across north America!!!
Nice to see your Holidays are off to a start Vic. I live in Newfoundland and we have gotten large amounts of snow lately...more then we can manage sometimes.
srry for being off topic:)
hey vic, saw your show today. I was wanting to figure out how to get in to the 10 grand contest. Any help? -jay
