X-COM Alliance is the fifth installment to the, ever
growing, X-COM series. EP loved the original game,
but thus far the sequels have been less than stellar.
Here's hoping the Unreal engine can make the difference.
The year is 2062. Your mission is to return to the
alien invasion base, left in ruins after the first
alien war in X-COM: UFO Defense, at Cydonia on Mars,
and to look for any technologies that were overlooked
the fist time around. Something goes terribly wrong.
As you start your orbit around Mars, you are sucked
sixty light-years away from Earth through a dimensional
gate abandoned by the offensive alien race. You are
thrown into the midst of a battle between X-COM's
original foes and an alien race called the Ascidians.
Your new mission becomes to try and find your way
back home. In attempting to do just that, X-COM allies
join with the Ascidians and try to defeat the alien
threat once more.
X-COM
is promising team based management elements to the
game. AI squad mates are notoriously difficult to
program and usually have problems route finding, acquiring
targets, following orders and staying out of the gamer's
way. However, by using the Unreal engine, which they
already know from their Klingon Honor Guard experience,
Microprose can spend that much more time developing
and tweaking teammate AI. Hopefully, they can pull
it off and wow us with X-COM Alliance.
