DUKE
NUKEM Forever

Genre: First Person Action
Expected Release: Fourth Quarter 1999
Duke Nukem is one of those few games that actually
deserves that adjective, "highly-anticipated," that
every PR rep puts in the press release for every single
game. Duke Nukem's strong personality and the humor
of the previous games have created a large fan base.
Our
beloved, back-talking, muscle bound, over pumped hero
is back and this time it's forever. Duke Nukem will
do battle against his original arch-nemesis, the 7'6"
Dr. Proton, under the not so bright lights of a completely
nuked out Los Vegas. Dr. Proton has taken over Area
51. He is using the crashed spacecraft detained within
the compound to contact and recruit aliens from all
over this galaxy for his ever growing intergalactic
army. Dr. Proton is also re-animating Area 51's guards
and rearming them with bionic enhancements. They are
programmed to do his bidding. Duke and his allies,
Gus and Bombshell, are the only ones who can stop
Dr. Proton before he takes over the world.
This
game is particularly interesting because 3D Realms
initially began development with the Quake II engine,
switching partway into the creation of the game because
they felt that the Unreal engine contained desirable
features that the Quake II engine did not. I wish
we had some more to show you, but the seal seems to
be pretty tight on this lid. In fact Duke didn't even
make an appearance at this year's E3 in Los Angeles.
What could Duke be up to? We'll keep you posted if
we receive any news on Duke Nukem Forever.
