Looks like you shouldn’t start holding your breath for Sackboy on the PSP just yet. Regarding all the LittleBigPlanet on PSP rumors, Sony’s Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller said developer Media Molecule is quote “really concentrating on right now making sure that the launched product is everything it could be and can be… But for the future, I think… we’d look at a wide variety of opportunities. Whether that’s the PSP or not, I can’t really say.” So the fun little platformer might be making it’s way to the PSP, just not right away. In the mean time, Sony has announced plans to provide new Sackboy costumes for free from the PlayStation Store every week, starting today.

EA’s pig skin monopoly might be coming to an end. With titles like Madden NFL and NCAA Football, EA has enjoyed exclusivity in the pro football market for the past few years. The tide could be turning though, now that the Arena Football license has expired, with EA choosing not to renew. We’ll have to see if 2K Sports or someone else snaps up the rights to the faster paced, indoor version of American Football, and given the recent financial woes at EA, we could see them give up control of some of their other football licenses too.

On the other hand, we know one license that EA will be returning to. Steven Spielberg’s Wii puzzle game Boom Blox is slated for a sequel. Even though original developer EA Blueprint was recently shut down, a sequel is in the works and will be developed by EA’s casual games team. Let’s hope the sequel comes with even more rectangular farm animals.

Square Enix is making good on their latest fantasy. After the new partnership with Supreme Commander developer Gas Powered Games, the Final Fantasy publisher has announced a new development studio in LA. President and CEO John Yamamoto said that this is part of their plan to expand outside of Japan and appeal more to Western audiences. With upcoming games like The Last Remnant, Supreme Commander 2, and Final Fantasy XIII already on the way from Square Enix, it should be interesting to see what new projects their LA studio has in store.

After the horrible Superman Returns game, and the even worse Superman N64, it looks like yet another Superman game has felt the touch of kryptonite. With publisher Brash Entertainment going under, Factor 5’s new Superman game is now in limbo. Although the game has never been officially confirmed, the studio has said it’s working on a dream property that quote “hasn’t been given its dues in gaming since the Atari 2600, and has a huge universe to draw from.” Let’s hope the Rogue Squadron developer finds its legs again with whatever new project it’s making, especially after the disappointment of Lair.

Strike me down and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. LucasArts has released new downloadable content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Gamers can now download ten new characters, including Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and even Anakin Skywalker. That means you’d get to duel yourself, I guess. Another downloadable package is in the works and will feature a new level set in the Jedi Temple. The new content is only available for the PS3 and 360 though, so as usual, Wii owners will have to make do without.

They make games based on movies, TV shows, comics, and now magazines. Taking a page from the History Channel, National Geographic has opened their own games division. Partnered with Namco Bandai, National Geographic Games will release a series of multi-platform titles, the first being Herod’s Lost Tomb. Apparently, some of the titles planned will be developed by the same Namco team that worked on the Katamari games, and each game will be released to coincide with tie-in issues of the National Geographic magazine. Could be very educational.

Do your part for science, play video games. Specifically, play the drums on Guitar Hero World Tour. Two UK universities are doing a long-term research project to investigate the improved motor skills that come with drumming, and the plastic Guitar Hero variety are now part of that study. The program was co-founded by former Blondie drummer Clem Burke, and has determined that pro drummers exert a similar amount of energy to pro football players.

After seven seasons, the Sunnyvale trailer park is closing its gates. Trailer Park Boys, the popular home-grown hit, is coming to and end next month with the close of its seventh season. The one-hour series finale will air December 7th, but that wont be the end of Ricky, Julian and Bubbles’ mis-adventures. Series creator Mike Clattenburg says that a second movie entitled Trailer Park Boys - Countdown To Liquor Day, will be out by next fall.
